The Comb Scanner is calibrated to scan a variety of O&P shapes. We’ve created a 5 step procedure to capture scans based upon this calibration. The scanning workflow can be summarized in five steps. Like any tool, the Comb Scanner requires practice (5-7 attempts) to get better using it.
Step One
Sign into your Comb Account and sit in front of the patient. Provide space to scan while also viewing the iPhone’s front screen.
Step Two
Start with the iPhone ~ 1 ft (30 cm) from the body part. Center the limb in the middle of the screen, then begin the scan.
Step Three
Slowly move the iPhone around the body part in a smooth and continuous motion until all red pixels disappear. As the red pixels dissipate, the scan is being saved into memory.
The Comb App may scan through transparent glass or plastic. A fixture may aid in scanning a lower extremity orthotic.
Step Four
Always point the iPhone’s front-screen at the subject throughout the scan. If the shape goes off-screen, tracking may fail. Pro tip: you can transfer the iPhone between hands mid-scan.
Step Five
When all the red pixels disappear, tap end the scan. Review to ensure a complete scan was captured.
When you've captured a good scan, save it as an .stl or .obj and access it from the Comb Portal. The Comb Portal is your access-point to delete and download your scans.
